I never new that I can make international calls to my love ones, until one particular day, I stumbled across one particular app, and guess what I was able to make calls for free. Currently we have hundreds apps that can do it, but today I am going to highlight those apps.

1. WhatsApp

The world’s most popular communication app

With whastapp, you can make calls for free without any difficulties.Whatsapp has  a user base of one billion as of February 2016, WhatsApp nabs the top spot on this list just for sheer volume. The app, allowing users to send texts, videos and audio recordings without SMS, has spawned a multitude of followers (see below) and was acquired by Facebook for a record $19 billion in 2014.

2.  Google Voice

For traveling in the U.S.

This one works great for Google users (and who isn’t one these days). Make and pick up calls, send and get texts, and read and listen to voicemails on your phone, tablet, or computer. However, Google Voice is only available in the U.S. Users outside the U.S. can make phone calls using Hangouts on a computer, Android device, or iOS device.

Its re-branding, with the help from a little company called Vice, has certainly garnered favor from the millennial crowd (and drawn comparisons to a certain hip clothing brand

If you’re connecting to another Apple user, you can use the built-in FaceTimeapp. You will need a wifi connection to make the call, but audio and video calls are free. FaceTime only works between two Apple devices and is incompatible with all non-Apple devices.

11. IMO

Many VOIP apps require a 3G cellular connection or using a wifi network. IMOsupports international calls where only a 2G connection is available. Even though you might have 4G LTE everywhere you go, other countries are thankful just to have the internet.
